Keynotes
"Ultra-low emission control technology for PM2.5 and precursor gases in traditional and high-tech industries "
For over 33 years since joining NYCU in 1990, Professor Chuen-Jinn Tsai has successfully applied aerosol technology to advance air pollution sampling, monitoring, and control technologies. He has received prestigious research awards from Taiwan's National Science and Technology Council three times and was promoted to Lifetime Professor at NYCU in 2023. In 2022, he was honored with the MOST Fellow Award by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). Professor Tsai is a key founding member of the Taiwan Association for Aerosol Research (TAAR) and the Asian Aerosol Research Assembly (AARA), where he has served as President. Since 2003, he has contributed to Aerosol and Air Quality Research (AAQR) as Editor-in-Chief, Co-Editor-in-Chief, and Editor for nearly 20 years. His work is hosted at AAQR.
"Sustainable valorization of mining waste in a circular economy: environmental and human health perspective "
Professor Valérie Cappuyns' research focuses on the sustainable management of soil, sediments, and waste materials by integrating insights from environmental science (geochemistry and environmental impact assessment) with approaches from economic and social sciences. In addition to her geochemical approach to managing soil, sediments, and waste materials, her research group also explores sustainable waste management. This includes comprehensive evaluations of environmental, economic, and social factors to assess the sustainability of contaminated site remediation, waste management policies, and more.
"Challenges of Environmental Pollution from Toxic Organic Compounds in Vietnam: Current Status and Future Research Directions"
Dr. To Thi Hien is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Environment, University of Science, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (HCMUS). She has worked at HCMUS since 1995 after earning her bachelor's and master's degrees in Analytical Chemistry. She obtained her PhD in Environmental Chemistry, specializing in Atmospheric Chemistry, from Osaka Prefecture University, Japan, in 2007.
Dr. Hien has over 17 years of experience in research and education in Environmental Chemistry. She leads the research group “Air and Water Pollution – Public Health – Climate Change” (AIWAH), affiliated with Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City. Her research interests include the sources, fate, and behavior of contaminants in aquatic and atmospheric environments (such as heavy metals, toxic organic compounds, PAHs, pesticides, dioxins, and emerging contaminants like PFAS and microplastics), biomarkers of pollutants, their effects on human health, and the development of removal methods.
Dr. Hien has participated in and led several international projects and has supervised 45 post-graduate students. She has published 70 international and 45 national peer-reviewed scientific papers, along with two book chapters. She has been a member of IGAC-MANGO (https://igac-mango.org/members/) since 2015.
"Satellite Early Warnings to Cope with Multiple Natural Hazards"
